Tolosa Tax is a tax preparation firm started by Karen and Erik with a passion to help small business owners and individuals manage and grow their financial well-being. With a strong accounting and tax background, the firm provides clients with expert advice, professionalism, responsiveness, and peace of mind.
Karen Bolen
Karen grew up in Southern California where she was first introduced to the tax profession by working for her dad's tax firm. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and her Master of Science in Kinesiology at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. After several years working at Stanford University, Karen had an opportunity to return to California's Central Coast where she earned her Enrolled Agent license and fulfilled her dream of starting a successful tax firm. Recently the lure of a new adventure in Bellingham, WA pulled Karen to the Pacific Northwest, so now Tolosa Tax serves clients up and down the West Coast. When not working, karen enjoys taking advantage of the nearby trails, mountain biking and hiking with her husband and dogs.
Erik Slayter
Erik spends most of his time as an accounting professor at Cal Poly. Throughout Erik's career, he has worked as a controller for companies in industries ranging from waste management to horticulture as well as roles in public accounting performing audits and preparing tax returns. Erik's MBA and undergraduate degree in Accounting were both earned from Cal Poly. Erik holds an active Certified Public Accountant license from the State of California. In his free time, Erik can be found riding his mountain bike, hiking, or playing soccer.
